Although I always knew that the learning process could be affected by neurological factors, I never really thought about all the other complex neurological factors that could be involved until after Dr. Ormrod lecture.
It's now very clear to me that Learning disabled students with deficits in informational processing skills face many educational challenges. These deficits can severely affect a student’s ability to learn due to the fact that all learning is cumulative. If a student is having problems early on in reading, the problem will only get worse because the student is lacking the solid foundation to build new material upon. Every effort needs to be made to catch these students early and make accommodations for them so that the student will not fall to far behind. That's why I think these week reading were very important.
